Caterham Academy

Caterham Academy represents tremendous value for those with no prior racing experience. For the purchase price of a new Caterham you will get not only a brand new road car but all-round assistance from Caterham to gain your competition licence and support you through your first race year.

At dpr motorsport we can help you in all aspects of getting to grips with the Academy except that we can not provide team support at the actual Academy race days.  However we can provide technical support for your car set-up and full race-readiness service check together with track and test day driver tuition.

SVA Test replaced by IVA

Before registration, Caterham cars are required to undergo a stringent Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test prior to being registered. As from April 29th 2009 the test will be known as the Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) test, or Basic Individual Vehicle Approval (BIVA) test.

Amateur Build Declaration

Most Caterham kit cars are built by the purchaser and are eligible for the "Amateur Build" option on the SVA test.  As this option provides exemption from certain EU SVA requirements, not surprisingly,  VOSA has a very strict interpretation of the meaning of Amateur.  Basically any suggestion of paid help, even from an enthusiast, will lead to the Amateur option being refused.  If this happens there is a major problem in getting an SVA  so you definitely do not want  to go to this place.

For the Amateur build option the VOSA declaration (VOSA Amateur build declaration form) needs to be completed together with the SVA application form.  You will need to provide original receipts (or certified copies) along with a photographic record of the build.  If you have ticked option 2 (built by myself for my own personal use and to be registered in my name), VOSA will expect the photographs to show the build taking place in your own garage.

Once the car is built, you should arrange for Caterham to perform their post-build inspection and you can also get Caterham to present your car for the SVA test.  To use this option you should specify Gillingham as the test centre.  One you have had technical clearance for the SVA test to proceed you can contact Gillingham to agree the exact test date.
